Good morning. As the COVID-19 pandemic takes a toll on life in America, our team at Future Majority is tracking the latest updates:
With only one day until the Georgia Senate Runoff Elections, a bombshell recording has revealed President Trump’s efforts to deny the will of voters:
In a call with Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger on Saturday, President Donald Trump made an extraordinary attempt to pressure the state official to “find” votes in his favor equal to the number of votes he lost to President-elect Joe Biden. In the recorded phone conversation, President Trump is heard saying, “I just want to find 11,780 votes, which is one more than we have.” The bombshell recording is the latest in a series of efforts by Trump and his closest allies to attempt to subvert the results of the 2020 election and deny the will of voters. Tomorrow, Georgia voters will have the last day to vote in the Senate runoff elections that will decide the partisan balance of the U.S. Senate.
COVID-19 is continuing to rage:
After the Christmas and New Year’s holidays, COVID-19 is raging across the United States and the globe. In the U.S., 20.6 million Americans have tested positive for the virus. Tragically, 352,000 Americans have died due to COVID-19. Health experts have warned that cases, hospitalizations and deaths will only continue to spike as families gathered for the holidays and, on Saturday, traveled through airports in record fashion over the course of the pandemic.
A slow vaccine rollout:
The Trump administration promised 20 million doses of vaccines would be administered by the end of 2020, but only just over 3 million doses were delivered, well short of the goal. The United States was on a dangerous trajectory to achieve herd immunity over 10 years, not several months as hoped, with the drastically slow pace of vaccine distribution and administration. Ahead of the new administration taking over on January 20th, federal officials are in talks with Moderna to cut doses in half to increase the availability of the vaccine to Americans based on evidence that half-doses for younger adults could produce “identical immune response.”
