Good morning. As the COVID-19 pandemic takes a toll on life in America, our team at Future Majority is tracking the latest updates:
The Biden Administration is aiming to accelerate the pace of vaccinations:
Next week, supplies of vaccines heading to states will increase by 16%, as many states grapple with shortages and demand for vaccines remains high. Only 1% of the U.S. population to date is fully vaccinated. The Biden Administration is closing in on a deal with two vaccine makers to have enough supplies to vaccinate 300 million Americans by the end of the summer -- a rapid acceleration from the current state.
Biden is going big on climate:
In the wake of an open letter from 150 business leaders around the world for the United States to more forcefully tackle climate change, President Joe Biden will sign several executive orders today on that very topic. Biden will direct federal agencies to eliminate fossil fuel subsidies as well as ordering the Interior Department to pause new oil and natural gas leases on public lands and offshore waters.
45 Republican Senators voted against an impeachment trial for Donald Trump:
All but five Republican members of the Senate voted against holding an impeachment trial for former president Donald Trump now that he is out of office. Without majority support for the measure led by Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY), the trial will indeed go on in two weeks. The vote indicated that an acquittal of Trump for his role in inciting the violent attack on the Capitol on 1/6/21, which left five people dead, is likely.
