Good morning. As the COVID-19 pandemic takes a toll on life in America, our team at Future Majority is tracking the latest updates:
The U.S. economy rose modestly at the end of 2020:
Despite the pandemic and economic fallout, U.S. GDP grew 1% in the last quarter of 2020, though this was a steep decline from growth in the third quarter reached 7.5%. While the modest increase is a positive sign, the U.S. economy is still well below pre-pandemic levels. GDP contracted 2.5% in 2020 versus the end of 2019. This represents the second-worst drop on record other than the 2008 financial crisis.
New York nursing home deaths might be significantly higher than reported:
A new report from the New York Attorney General’s office found that the state may have underreported COVID-19-related deaths by as much as 50%. With over 8,500 reported, that is a staggering toll.
