Stand up to Mitch McConnell and Support H.R. 1
Demand a vote on H.R. 1
Mitch McConnell comes out swinging against Democratic efforts to restore Americans’ trust in government.
Mitch McConnell is too busy to allow a vote to open the government, but he did find some time to attack House Resolution 1 - the Democratic effort to stop the influence of secretive dark money in our elections, strengthen ethics rules, expand voting rights, and reduce partisan gerrymandering.
Yes, apparently Mitch likes rampant corruption in Washington and refuses to help root it out.
In a Jan. 17 Washington Post op-ed, McConnell -- the father of modern nasty politics, the man who spearheaded eight years of obstruction, the man who stole a Supreme Court seat and the man who refused to allow President Obama to warn the American people about an attack from Russia on our elections – said that H.R. 1 is an “outlandish” proposal.
Yes, to McConnell, it is outlandish that Democrats want to clean up the corruption in Washington and restore the people’s faith in our government and in our democracy. To McConnell, it is outlandish that Americans voted overwhelmingly in November in favor of the Democrats reform agenda.
In his op-ed, McConnell wrote that Democrats were trying to pass their legislation – legislation that is widely supported by the American people – by using “clichés about ‘restoring democracy’ and doing it ‘For the People.”
Mitch, restoring democracy isn’t a cliché, it is what Americans elected our leaders to do. And we’re not surprised that someone who works for billionaires, lobbyists and foreign adversaries thinks “For the People” is a gimmick.
We have always known this legislation is an important and good idea to help solve some of the big problems plaguing our community. But now that Mitch McConnell is opposed, we KNOW it’s a great idea.
So, reach out to your senators. Tell them to tell Mitch to open the government and bring this legislation up for a vote.
The government belongs to the American people. Not to Mitch and his billionaire buddies that are threatened by the promise of America.
