Today marks the start of the second impeachment trial for Donald J. Trump:

The Senate will begin to hear arguments today about the article of impeachment against former president Donald Trump for his role in inciting the violent attack on our nation’s Capitol on 1/6/21. The proceedings will begin with a debate on the constitutionality of trying a former president who no longer holds office. The trial will be a test of whether our elected leaders uphold democracy and hold anyone who stokes violence accountable. We will be tracking the latest updates this week in the Daily Roundup.

House Democrats have unveiled their plan for economic relief payments: 

After debating over the income threshold for direct payments in the anticipated economic relief package, House Democrats released their plan, which includes $1,400 checks for those earning up to $75,000 a year and direct payments for couples making up to $150,000. Eligibility would become more stringent for those with incomes over $75,000.

The W.H.O has reported on the origins of COVID-19:

Since COVID-19 first appeared in Wuhan, China over a year ago, the novel coronavirus has infected more than 106 million people around the globe and taken the lives of 2,327,726. Now, the World Health Organization has released findings after studying the origins of the virus in Wuhan earlier this year. Scientists said that it was “extremely unlikely” that the virus was a result of an accident in a lab, but rather was most likely spread to humans from an animal vector.
