With the 2020 presidential race underway, candidates have presented their plans on what climate justice should they make it to the White House.
Here's a breakdown of some of the biggest proposals by presidential candidates:
Joe Biden
- $1.7 trillion from the Federal government and additional spending from state, local, and private source (including: $400 billion for research and development)
- Passenger rail projects, which can curb emissions from the transportation sector
- Close tax loop holes
Bernie Sanders
- $16.3 trillion in federal investments (including: $780 billion for research, $2 trillion to retrofit buildings, $2 trillion to trade in gas powered cars for electric vehicles, $680 billion to get old cars off the road, $850 billion to develop energy storage)
- Raising taxes on corporate polluters
- Absolute ban on fracking
Elizabeth Warren
- $3 trillion in federal investments to spur trillions more from the private sector (including: $400 billion for research and development, $1.5 trillion to purchase clean energy products, $100 billion to support green American product exports)
- Target Dates: 2028: 100% zero-emissions for new residential & commercial buildings, 2030: 100% zero-emissions for new vehicles, 2035: 100% clean electricity
- Enacting a real corporate profits tax
Overall Agreement
- Rejoining the Paris Climate Agreement
- Build charging stations for electric vehicles
- End subsidies for America's fossil fuel industry
