Good afternoon. Here are the latest news and updates that our team at Future Majority is tracking.
Biden continues his lead over Sanders in the Democratic primary race:
A new Morning Consult poll shows former Vice President Biden with an overwhelming 60% support among Democratic primary voters to Senator Bernie Sanders’ 36%, a 24-point margin.
Biden also leads the national pledged delegate count, with 1,214 to Sanders’ 910. 1,991 pledged delegates are needed to secure the Democratic nomination on the first ballot. With only 40% of the total delegates still at stake, Sanders would need to improve his own performance by 40% — or win the remaining delegates by 20 points to surpass Biden.
Trump’s approval rating has matched his highest levels, but it still remains under 50%.
Gallup is out with their bi-weekly approval rating polling, and President Trump’s approval is up 5 points:
- Approve: 49%
- Disapprove: 45%
The poll also found the country generally approves of Trump’s handling of the COVID-19 crisis:
- Approve: 60%
- Disapprove: 38%
But a Politico/Morning Consult poll out today has Trump's approval underwater by 7 points:
- Approve: 45%
- Disapprove: 52%
New head-to-head polling shows a narrow race in the general election:
A Monmouth poll out this week shows a very close race between Trump and the leading Democratic contender, Joe Biden among registered voters:
In the poll, Biden leads Trump in ~300 swing counties (counties where the margin of victory was less than 10 points in 2016), by a margin of 50% to 41%. Among white women with a college degree, Biden leads handily, 63% to 33%.
Among women of color, Biden leads by an even greater margin, 77% to 14%. Trump, however, leads white women without a college degree, 66% to 29%.
