In the midst of the global coronavirus pandemic, Trump threatened to permanently end funding to the World Health Organization. He made his comments as the death toll due to the virus surpassed 90,000 in the U.S. and 318,000 globally.
Mnuchin and Powell are set to testify today:
Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin and Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell will testify before the Senate Banking Committee. Senators will be asking questions about the deployment of $500 billion in credit through the CARES Act, which along with the small business loan program, have been mired in controversy and accusations of inefficiency.
Trump’s job approval continues to dip:
A new poll from Harvard-Harris shows voters disapprove of Trump’s job as President by 6 points:
- Approve: 47%
- Disapprove: 53%
When asked about the economy, it’s flipped: 53% of voters approve of his handling of the nation’s reeling economy, while 47% disapprove.
The poll finds that the economy has surpassed healthcare in terms of most important issues Americans feel are facing the country:
- Coronavirus: 60%
- Economy and jobs: 46%
- Healthcare: 32%
