Good morning. As the COVID-19 pandemic takes a toll on life in America, our team at Future Majority is tracking the latest updates:
Cases are on the rise in 36 states:
In well over half of the country, new cases of COVID-19 are rising. Daily cases have surpassed 50,000 -- setting a record over the course of the pandemic.
Leaders in red states have changed their tune. Gov. Greg Abbott (R-TX) issued a state-wide mask ordinance. It will be an unusual Fourth of July holiday as public health officials urge Americans to stay home.
Trump is moving forward with his Mount Rushmore event:
President Trump is celebrating Independence Day at Mount Rushmore in South Dakota.
7,500 people are expected, and masks will be provided upon request but not required. It would be unlikely if Trump wore a mask.
After a week of upheaval, Trump’s approval continues to suffer:
A new Reuters/Ipsos poll shows that Trump’s approval has remained firm in the low 40’s:
- Approve: 41%
- Disapprove: 57%
And a poll from Politico/Morning Consult shows the President has a net 20-point approval deficit:
- Approve: 39%
- Disapprove: 59%
