Good morning. As the COVID-19 pandemic takes a toll on life in America, our team at Future Majority is tracking the latest updates:
Despite Trump’s promise, there is a shortage of COVID-19 testing:
Trump made a grand promise that anyone who wants a test can get a test.
But months into the pandemic and many cities don’t have the testing capacity they need to keep up with the surging virus. Though the U.S. has increased the gross number of tests since it bungled testing early on, we still lag behind several other nations in terms of daily per-capita testing, which is an important way to identify positive cases and flatten the curve.
The U.S. is going big on a COVID-19 vaccine:
The federal government announced it would pay Novavax $1.6 billion for the expedited development and production of 100 million doses of a vaccine by early 20201.
President Trump’s job approval continues to solidify in the high 30’s:
A new Gallup poll shows that Trump’s job approval is holding steady near the low-point of his presidency:
- Approve: 38%
- Disapprove: 57%
Trump’s approval has taken a 7-point turn with a core part of his base -- men -- who now majority-disapprove of his job performance.
The last two presidents to have sub-40% approval ratings in June of their first term? George H.W. Bush and Jimmy Carter.
