Good morning. As the COVID-19 pandemic takes a toll on life in America, our team at Future Majority is tracking the latest updates:
Thursday was another record-setting day of COVID-19 cases:
Nearly 60,000 new cases of COVID-19 were reported in the U.S. yesterday -- a new record, and the sixth single-day record in just 10 days.
The virus is showing no signs of slowing down. Cases are climbing most dramatically by Southern states that were the first to reopen their economies, despite warnings from health officials at the time that it was too soon.
It’s a repeat of March and April:
Hospitals in states that are currently being hit hard by the virus are overwhelmed -- not unlike the scene in much of the northeast in the early spread of COVID-19.
Healthcare providers are being forced to cancel elective surgeries and discharge patients early to keep hospital beds available for COVID patients. As hospitalizations and deaths tick up, some states are also experiencing shortages of personal protective equipment. Read more about the PPE crisis here.
A Trump-touted poll shows him trailing Biden:
Rasmussen Reports, a poll Trump favors, shows him down against Biden by 10 points:
- Biden: 50%
- Trump: 40%
In the poll, Trump earns 74% support from Republicans, a number he typically likes to say is at 95%. Biden garners 79% support among Democrats, and independents favor Biden by a margin of 48% to 36%.
