Good morning. As the COVID-19 pandemic takes a toll on life in America, our team at Future Majority is tracking the latest updates:
The U.S. surpassed 4 million known cases of COVID-19
A grim milestone was reached in the U.S., as nearly 70,000 new cases were reported Thursday, bringing the total confirmed cases around the country to 4 million. It is unknown how many unreported cases there are, but the CDC said that could range anywhere from 2 to 13 times the confirmed count in some areas.
For the third day in a row, the U.S. surpassed 1,100 deaths on Thursday alone. And several states recorded their own single-day new case highs, including Alabama, Hawaii, Indiana, Missouri and New Mexico. Florida and Tennessee reported record daily deaths.
President Trump reversed course on the Republican National Convention:
After moving the Convention from Charlotte, North Carolina to Jacksonville, Florida, after the latter state was more amenable to hosting an event during COVID-19, President Trump abruptly changed his position yesterday and canceled the events scheduled to be held in Jacksonville. As cases, hospitalizations, and deaths to the virus surge in Florida, Trump said, now is “not the right time.”
