The U.S. Postal Service is experiencing massive backlogs as lack of funding has forced the agency to implement huge cost-cutting measures. Now Americans are feeling the brunt of the cuts.
Mail is piling up, offices are understaffed, and Americans aren't able to get their mail on time. These delays could impact votes in November, as millions of Americans vote by mail for the first time as a safe and healthy alternative to going to the polls during COVID-19. Cuts the USPS budget have also impacted struggling Americans, who are now having a hard time surviving without their checks, packages of food, or paying their bills on time.
USPS has warned that they will not make it to September if they do not receive $75 billion in funding. Congress allocated $25 billion in the CARES Act, but the Trump administration block that dire-needed funding in favor of a $10 billion loan only if "reforms" they wanted happened. If our postal service is at risk, so are Americans' livelihoods and rights.
We need to help save the USPS now in order to:
Receive and send mail on time
Allow millions of small business that rely on the post office to operate as efficiently as possible
Ensure that Americans can safely and effectively vote
