A major vaccine trial has been stopped in its tracks:
AstraZeneca was forced to halt its clinical trial of its vaccine for COVID-19 because of an unexplained and serious illness in a participant. The announcement came the same day that AstraZeneca and eight other major pharmaceutical companies released a joint pledge to uphold the highest safety and efficacy standards in the development and distribution of their vaccines.
A study has linked over 250,000 cases to a motorcycle rally:
Researchers at the Center for Health Economics and Policy Studies at San Diego State University released a study that linked the Sturgis motorcycle rally in South Dakota to the spread of more than 260,000 COVID-19 cases. The rally was held on August 7th, and was attended by hundreds of thousands of bikers. The analysis used cell phone data to track rallygoers' movements against areas of confirmed cases. South Dakota's governor, Kristi Noem called the report “fiction.”
One state -- three different polls:
Three new polls out of the battleground state of Pennsylvania paint a varied picture of the state of the presidential race.
A new NBC News/Marist poll shows former Vice President Joe Biden leading President Trump by 9 points:
- Biden: 53%
- Trump: 44%
But another poll out today from CNBC/Change Research has Biden only leading by 4 points:
- Biden: 50%
- Trump: 46%
A third poll from Susquehanna has the race even tighter and within the margin of error:
- Biden: 44%
- Trump: 42%
