Good morning. As the COVID-19 pandemic takes a toll on life in America, our team at Future Majority is tracking the latest updates:
After nearly three weeks, the GSA has finally ascertained the election and declared Joe Biden the apparent winner:
Almost three weeks to the day since Election Day, the transition from the Trump administration to the Biden administration has formally begun. The administrator of the General Services Administration, Emily Murphy, who stonewalled the formal transition process for weeks finally issued a letter of ascertainment that declared President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris the apparent winners of those offices, allowing federal funds to flow to aid in their transition.
The decision came after Michigan certified its election results yesterday, despite a controversial abstention from one Republican on the Board of Canvassers. President Trump continues to wage a legal battle to attempt to overturn the results of the election and to date is 1-35 in lawsuits pertaining to the election and the counts of votes in various states.
The beginning of the formal transition means the battle against COVID-19 will be in the hands of Biden and Harris:
As President-elect Joe Biden makes several cabinet picks and selections for top administration officials, the formal start of the transition process also signifies the beginning of the Biden-Harris approach to tackling COVID-19. The new administration will inherit a virus that is out of control -- just as of today the nation is averaging 175,000 cases per day over the past week. Daily deaths have consistently been over the grim 1,000 mark. President-elect Biden has for weeks been imploring Americans to wear masks: “We can save tens of thousands of lives if everyone would just wear a mask for the next few months,” he said earlier this month.
Despite warnings, the nation is bracing for heightened traveling this week:
With Thanksgiving in only two days, health experts are bracing for an uptick in traveling. Dr. Fauci and the CDC itself have warned Americans against traveling for the holidays in order to slow the spread of the virus, but the trends are already looking worrisome. On Sunday, the TSA screened over one million passengers at airports around the country -- the highest daily total since March.
