Good morning. As the COVID-19 pandemic takes a toll on life in America, our team at Future Majority is tracking the latest updates:
Pfizer and BioNTech have gotten the green light … in the U.K.:
The United Kingdom approved the COVID-19 vaccine from Pfizer and BioNTech, becoming the first Western country to give the green light to a vaccine. Despite months-long pressure from the Trump White House to do the same in the United States, the vaccine and a separate candidate from Moderna await approval from the FDA.
A CDC advisory panel has made its recommendations about who should receive a vaccine first:
An independent advisory panel to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention met Tuesday and voted on a recommendation that across the United States, healthcare workers and residents of long-term care facilities and nursing homes be the first in line to receive an approved vaccine. The panel voted 13-1 on the recommendation and it is now in the hands of CDC Director, Dr. Robert Redfield, who is expected to decide today whether to accept the recommendation and elevate it to formal guidance. Though states would not be bound by such guidance, they are likely to take it up.
The Attorney General said the Department of Justice found no evidence of voter fraud:
Attorney General William Barr, a Trump appointee, told the Associated Press on Tuesday that the U.S. Department of Justice found no evidence of widespread voter fraud in the 2020 presidential elections. State election officials have made the same affirmation. Meanwhile, President Trump’s personal and campaign lawyers continue to allege wrongdoings in the election without presenting evidence to prove their false claims.
