Your Daily Roundup for December 8th
Let us know what you think!
Good morning. As the COVID-19 pandemic takes a toll on life in America, our team at Future Majority is tracking the latest updates:
Vaccines are being administered in Britain:
After its first in the world approval, the National Health Service in Britain has administered the first shots of the vaccine developed by Pfizer and BioNTech for COVID-19. In the U.S., the FDA suggested that the same vaccine would meet its criteria for approval and could give the green light to the shot as soon as this weekend. We will be tracking the latest updates.
A grim milestone has been reached:
The United States has surpassed its record for most deaths due to COVID-19 over a seven day period. Deaths averaged 2,249 over seven days, which is a tragic indication of the toll the virus is taking. The overall death toll is nearing 300,000 deaths. In March, the White House said their models predicted 100,000 to 240,000 deaths.
Safe Harbor Day has arrived:
Today is Safe Harbor Day in the states, otherwise known as the deadline for any state-level election challenges to be resolved. Additionally, nearly every state has certified the 2020 election results in their states. When the Electoral College casts its votes on December 14th, barring some sort of extreme intervention, Joe Biden will be again declared the winner of the election while President Trump continues his efforts to overturn the results.
