After FDA approval for the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine over the weekend, the first Americans around the country are set to receive the vaccine today. Those include high-risk healthcare workers and residents of nursing homes, who are largely expected to begin being vaccinated next week.

The beginning of vaccine distribution comes as the death toll due to COVID-19 approaches a tragic milestone of 300,000 since the start of the pandemic.

The Electoral College will formally certify Joe Biden’s win today:

Electors across every state in the country will meet today to cast their votes and formally declare President-elect Joe Biden as the winner of the 2020 election and the next President of the United States come Inauguration Day on January 20, 2021. Despite the sure victory and decisive win in both the total votes cast and the Electoral College, President Trump has continued his crusade to challenge the results and attempt to undermine the will of the voters. Over the weekend, he lashed out at Republican governors for certifying election results in states that Biden duly won.

Airlines are set to launch a new health passport app:

Top airlines in the United States and around the world, including United Airlines and JetBlue, are preparing for the launch of a new app called CommonPass, which will be designed as a health passport for travelers. The app will verify passengers’ COVID-19 test results and potentially even vaccine status. Depending on country restrictions, some passengers might require electronic vaccination credentials or proof of negative test results to travel.
