Protect and Serve: A Veterans Bill of Rights

Our nation’s veterans serve and protect us in the military -- but too often, we fail to serve and protect them when they return home: Only 30% return to civilian life with a job, nearly two million along with four million of their family members lack basic health coverage, 20 veterans die from suicide every day, and over 40,000 are without a home on any given night. They deserve better.

And a set of simple changes and cost-effective tools will make a dramatic difference, from leveraging veterans’ unique experience and training to propel them toward jobs, to proven programs that help with re-entry to civilian life, to services that make it easier for vets to access high quality healthcare and secure housing.

Protect and Serve: A Veterans Bill of Rights has been introduced in 11 states: Arizona, Georgia, Illinois, Kentucky, Michigan, Montana, North Carolina, New Hampshire, South Carolina and Texas. See the map here.

Smart Capitalism - For the People

Some of the 2020 Democratic presidential contenders are also talking about how capitalism is broken and needs to be fixed. Joe Biden says we need to “remake capitalism”. Beto O’Rourke calls for Conscientious Capitalism, Pete Buttigieg dubs it Democratic Capitalism and Elizabeth Warren refers to it as Accountable Capitalism.

We agree with them. And these are all the same concept, which is pretty simple -- Smart Capitalism invests in 100% of American citizens where Inefficient Capitalism empowers mainly the top 10% of earners leaving 90% of Americans in the lurch and not sharing in the wealth creation.

This gulf has created and it perpetuates income inequality, a shrinking middle class, a corporate environment where CEOs work to enrich themselves and their shareholders at the expense of their workers, and a tax system that favors the ultra wealthy.

The current inefficient capitalist system creates concentrated wealth and concentrated power. It rewards greed and can encourage outright theft (see also the financial crash of 2008 and the role of mortgage brokers...). And it lavishes the rich with tax cuts and allows corporations to - in some cases - pay zero taxes, while keeping in place regressive payroll taxes that burden average Americans. This is not a sustainable system. It is undemocratic, and it is inefficient.

Yet this system of inefficient capitalism is flourishing under Donald Trump and it is dangerously coupled with rampant corruption and an erosion of democracy that could lead the United States in the direction of a kleptocracy. (Wait, is this what Putin had planned all along???)

If Donald Trump has proved anything, it is that we need to move to a system of Smart Capitalism...and fast. He's also proved we need to take serious action to end the outright corruption that now defines Trump's Washington.

End the Corruption in Washington - For the People

When Democrats took control of the House earlier this year, one of the first things they did was to try to end the rampant culture of corruption that has a grip on Washington and keeps the system of inefficient capitalism chugging along.

On March 8, 2019 Democrats unanimously passed H.R. 1, the For the People Act - the most sweeping package of anti-corruption legislation since Watergate.

H.R. 1 would require Super PACs and other so called “dark money” groups to disclose their donors and it would enact new ethics laws and lobbying restrictions. It is aimed at stopping the flow of the unlimited and unrestricted money that dictates both who gets elected and how policy is shaped in Washington. It is this type of unregulated money in politics that rigs the system in favor of the wealthy and is corrosive to our democracy.

What does this have to do with capitalism? Simple - it is corporate lobbyists and corporate dark money spending in elections that buys access to politicians and keeps an inefficient capitalist system in place.

These folks want to keep the current system in place because they can bend the rules to work for themselves. And without anti-corruption measures like H.R. 1, these folks will continue to concentrate wealth and power where they see fit. It is this rigging of the system that blocks the very competition that makes capitalism work and benefit all Americans - not just the top 10%.

Yet Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) flatly refuses to bring H.R. 1 to a vote in the Senate. It’s no wonder...Mitch McConnell relies on corporate and lobbyist cash.

According to Open Secrets, from 1998-2018 McConnell took an absolutely obscene amount of campaign cash from the financial services industry ($12,994,583), lawyers and lobbyists ($4,543,968) and other business interests ($6,249,322).

If we as a country really want to be For the People, the Senate must bring H.R. 1 to a vote and we must move towards a system of Smart Capitalism that works For the People. All of them.

Things just got worse for embattled Republican Kentucky Gov. Matt Bevin, which means things must be getting better for Kentucky taxpayers.

We learned today that a three-judge panel of the Kentucky Court of Appeals ruled that Bevin must release the names of shareholders/investors in the shady Braidy Industries aluminum mill.

As we told you previously, Gov. Bevin invested $15 million of Kentucky taxpayer money in the Braidy Industries mill, which is owned by Bevin pal Craig Bouchard.

If that weren’t shady enough, Russian aluminum company Rusal, largely owned by Russian oligarch and Putin crony Oleg Deripaska (who’s under sanctions by the U.S. government), is putting $200 million into the Braidy Industries mill and taking a 40% ownership stake in the mill.

You may recall that Oleg Deripaska is the same Russian oligarch who paid $10 million a year to former Trump campaign chairman and convicted felon Paul Manafort.

In December last year in response to an aggressive lobbying campaign, the corrupt Trump administration set the wheels in motion for Rusal’s move into Kentucky when it lifted sanctions against the business empire of Deripaska, one of Russia’s most powerful oligarchs. Deripaska and Rusal were under sanctions in retaliation for hostile Russian interference in the 2016 election.

And guess who greased these wheels for Deripaska and Rusal? Kentucky Senators Mitch McConnell (R) and Rand Paul (R).

That’s right. The two Kentucky Republicans voted earlier this year to lift U.S. sanctions on Rusal.

By the way, the vote to lift these sanctions was scheduled by McConnell, the same Senate Majority leader who refuses to schedule a vote on a sweeping anti-corruption package, H.R. 1 that passed the House overwhelmingly earlier this year. Guess he doesn’t want an anti-corruption law that might block his own corruption.

The great Russian invasion of America keeps coming. And our own leaders have rolled out the red carpet for continued Russian interference in U.S. elections and nabbing taxpayer dollars for shady deals in the states like Kentucky. McConnell, Paul and Bevin’s embrace of corrupt Trumpism is a virus - and it is spreading. You've been warned.

As House Democrats approach their 100th day in the majority on April 13, Future Majority is taking a look at what they’ve achieved in a short period of time and in the face of constant GOP obstruction and rampant chaos and corruption emanating from the Trump White House.

As Trump and the GOP worked to tear down the Affordable Care Act -- work that continues to this day -- harmed millions of people with a costly, unnecessary and unprecedented 35-day government shutdown, and concealed the fact that the president wrote hush money checks to an adult film actress while sitting in the Oval Office, Democrats governed.

Here are a few more examples of the hard work Democrats have put in on behalf of the American people:

Accomplishment: Protected the Affordable Care Act

Democrats passed a resolution condemning Trump administration attacks on the Affordable Care Act and the millions of Americans who have benefitted from it. Trump wants to eliminate health care for more than 20 million Americans and jeopardize the health care of tens of millions more with pre-existing conditions. Democrats fought back - and will continue to - as the GOP proved yet again they do not care about the American people or their health care.

Oversight: Had former Trump personal Michael Cohen testify under oath

Democrats brought Trump’s “fixer” to testify about the president’s immorality and criminal behavior in front of the entire country, including the surprising fact that Trump signed checks to Michael Cohen reimbursing him for the payoff to Stormy Daniels while sitting behind the Resolute Desk in the Oval Office. The response from the GOP? Crickets. This is what real oversight looks like. It’s what the Constitution requires. And it’s what Republicans failed to do for the first two years of the Trump administration.

Accountability: Shared stories from millions of Americans struggling as a result of the Trump Shutdown

Democrats held the line on Donald Trump’s disastrous government shutdown and helped shine a spotlight on the plight of government workers and millions of others who were struggling to pay their bills, make their mortgage payments and feed their families as Trump forced them to go without paychecks for more than a month. We continue to learn of the disastrous impact on our country from Trump’s irresponsible and dangerous government shutdown, including an FAA unable to warn pilots in a timely manner of a software flaw in the auto-pilot system of the Boeing 737 Max 8. Trump put people in danger and harmed families in a reckless attempt to force Congress to give him money to build his vanity wall at the Southern border.

From healthcare to oversight, Democrats are keeping the promises they made to voters in the midterm elections, and they will continue to fight for America and the American people.

Russian aluminum company Rusal, partly owned by Russian oligarch and Putin crony Oleg Deripaska (who’s currently under sanctions by the U.S. government), is putting $200 million into a Kentucky aluminum mill plant to be built by Braidy Industries, a company that’s owned by Craig Bouchard, a buddy of Gov. Matt Bevin (R-KY). Rusal will own 40 percent of the aluminum plant.

Rusal is the same Russian company Mitch McConnell voted earlier this year to lift U.S. sanctions on. And Deripaska is the same Russian oligarch still under U.S. sanctions and the same Russian oligarch who had significant business ties to former Trump campaign chairman and convicted felon Paul Manafort.

The great Republican sellout to Russia is still ongoing folks. Their corrupt embrace of Trumpism is a virus, and it is now spreading to the states with the help of Republican Mitch McConnell.

Kentucky taxpayers have already subsidized Braidy Industries aluminum plant thanks to $15 million they received from Governor Bevin in a desperate attempt to look like a job creator in an election year. Now, Mitch McConnell has greased the wheels by lifting sanctions on the Russian company that today announced a $200 million infusion into Braidy.

Coincidence?

No.

When asked about the cloud hanging over the investment, Braidy CEO Craig Bouchard offered some Trumpian nonsense to defend his deal with the devil:

“If you remember Hannah Montanna, everybody loved her at the time. Then she became a teenager -- Miley Cyrus -- and the media got on her a little bit, and now she is a beautiful married woman. I expect that Rusal comes out of this as the superstar company in our industry.”

What?!

When Trump announced earlier this year he was lifting sanctions on Deripaska, there was a bipartisan effort in the Senate to stop it. Republicans and Democrats joined together to say an attack on this nation must be punished.

Mitch McConnell did not join that effort. Now we know why.

McConnell is forcing the American people into a deal with the same country that attacked our democracy less than three years ago, and he apparently doesn’t care if he puts the people of his own state in bed with the oligarchs who think they can interfere in our elections and get away with it.

What does Matt Bevin have to say about Rusal?

“This is a seed that has been in the ground. The germination so often seems invisible to people, but good things have been happening,” Bevin said. “We are going to see in the days immediately ahead as the first little shoots start to come up out of the soil, and it’s exciting to see this and it’s a blessing for me to be a small little part of this.”

Yes, Gov. Bevin, this is a seed, but it has been planted by the very people who want to destroy our democracy. That you and Mitch would help them, speaks volumes about the state of the Republican Party today.

Whether it’s winning elections or bailing them out of bad deals, it seems there’s nothing Republicans won’t ask the Russians to help them do.

Trump’s corruption is a virus, and we can see that it is clearly spreading from Washington to the states. Today it’s Kentucky. Who knows which state it will be tomorrow?

Russian aluminum company Rusal, partly owned by Russian oligarch and Putin crony Oleg Deripaska (who’s currently under sanctions by the U.S. government), is putting $200 million into a Kentucky aluminum mill plant to be built by Braidy Industries, a company that’s owned by Craig Bouchard, a buddy of Gov. Matt Bevin (R-KY). Rusal will own 40 percent of the aluminum plant.

The great Republican sellout to Russia is still ongoing folks. Their corrupt embrace of Trumpism is a virus, and it is now spreading to the states with the help of Republican Mitch McConnell.

On April 13, House Democrats hit the 100 day mark with Speaker Nancy Pelosi at the helm. She's presided over an unprecedented amount of accomplishment for the American people, oversight of the Executive Branch and holding Trump and his administration accountable.

She's done this all while navigating a daily stream of chaos, corruption and obstruction of justice coming from the unhinged president that temporarily inhabits the White House.

In April, we wrote a three-part series about the numerous Democratic accomplishments starting with passage of H.R. 1, the For the People Act - the most sweeping package of anti-corruption legislation since Watergate.

In addition to a laser focus on the For the People agenda, House Democrats have worked to protect the Affordable Care Act, passed meaningful gun safety legislation, and have fought to protect military families from a Trump multi-billion dollar money grab to build his vanity wall that would have taken money from sorely needed military family housing upgrades.

From healthcare to oversight to fighting for Veterans and military families, Democrats are keeping the promises they made to voters in the midterm elections.

Republicans? In the real world, it is clear they are THE DO NOTHING PARTY, Mr. Trump.

Perhaps Trump needs to chat with his good friend the Grim Reaper (AKA Mitch McConnell, the Senate Majority \"Leader\") if he truly has concerns about a party that does nothing.

We'll give the self-identified Grim Reaper credit - when it comes to blocking legislation and protecting a justice obstructing corrupt president - he's a flipping master.

Sadly, Trump, McConnell and the GOP as a whole prove every day they are not For the People.

This week, Future Majority has taken a closer look at all the accomplishments House Democrats have to show for their first 100 days in the majority.

While standing firm against the presidential childishness that led to a destructive and pointless 35-day government shutdown, Democrats have set the tone for how they will govern -- and they won’t let up. Democrats listened to voters in the 2018 midterms and set about producing for them, passing sweeping legislation, providing Constitutionally-mandated oversight and holding Trump and the GOP accountable.

Here are a few more examples of the hard work Democrats have put in on behalf of the American people:

Accomplishment: Passed a pair of gun safety bills

After years of shameful congressional inaction from Republicans, Democrats passed meaningful gun safety legislation, including two background check bills that expand background checks to private gun sales and close the so-called “Charleston loophole” that allowed Dylann Roof to purchase a gun in 2015 and murder nine people at Mother Emanuel Church in Charleston, South Carolina even after a prior arrest and drug posession.

H.R. 1112, the Charleston Loophole Bill, sponsored by Rep. Jim Clyburn (D-S.C.) closed the loophole in the current law through which some firearms are transferred by licensed gun dealers before required background checks have been completed.

Americans families demanded change for their children, and Democrats are delivering.

Accomplishment: Voted against Trump’s fake national emergency & protected military families

Democrats voted against Trump’s childish, unnecessary and fake national emergency at the Southern border. Trump’s attempts to divert $3.6 billion from military construction projects, which included much needed upgrades for housing for military families, was and is an affront to military families.

This fight isn’t over, and Democrats have already moved aggressively to fight Trump’s dereliction of duty and wasteful obsession in court.

Accomplishment: Voted to end the U.S.-backed war in Yemen

And Democrats voted for the first time to take back congressional war powers and end the U.S.-engagement in the Saudi-backed war in Yemen.

The vote was a massive rebuke to Trump and his corrupt buddies in Saudi Arabia.

As we’ve said all week, Democrats are keeping the promises they made to voters, and they will continue to fight for America and the American people.

The first 100 days were just a start.

Democrats are determined to bring real relief to the American middle class while holding Trump and his cronies accountable by doing the kind of oversight the Constitution requires.

The appeal to alienated young men, combined with the country's gun culture, creates a leading incubator of the mass shootings now plaguing the country.

Both parties are calling out the ideology after the El Paso massacre by an Anglo who complained online of a \"Hispanic invasion\": George P. Bush, a Hispanic Republican who is Texas land commissioner and the grandson and nephew of former presidents, warned this weekend of \"white terrorism here in the U.S.\"
The FBI says homegrown violent extremists are now a top concern — \"a persistent, pervasive threat,\" director Christopher Wray called it in April.
Two weeks ago, Wray said the bureau had made 100 arrests for domestic terrorism in the past 9 months, with many tied to white supremacy.

The data: \"Right-wing extremists killed more people in 2018 than in any year since 1995, the year of Timothy McVeigh’s bomb attack on the Oklahoma City federal building, according to the Anti-Defamation League,\" per the NY Times.

The reality: 2019 is worse.

We're seeing all this unfold before our eyes on social media.

\"The Great Replacement,\" a white-nationalist conspiracy theory cited by the El Paso suspect, has gone viral on fringe platforms.
The suspect's online manifesto spread widely, despite efforts to contain it: An analysis by the social-media intelligence firm Storyful found the manifesto was shared hundreds of times on Facebook and Twitter.

Storyful found that white nationalists drove a substantial amount of online conversation during last week's Democratic debate.

Sen. Kamala Harris has been the target of right-wing nationalist conversation online, largely due to her background and race.

Russian bots have long been fueling the white nationalist movement in the U.S.

Foreign actors have used race to sow divisions in the wake of mass shootings and debates around race, including Charlottesville and NFL kneeling.

Despite all the flashing warning signs, the FBI has been criticized for being slow to focus enough resources on the danger.

FBI officials recently told Congress they were conducting \"about 850 domestic terrorism investigations — a decrease from a year earlier, when there were roughly 1,000,\" the WashPost reports.

Why domestic terrorism is hard to stop, via the NY Times:

Compared to broad powers to disrupt foreign terrorist plots, \"domestically, federal officials have far fewer options. A federal statute defines domestic terrorism but carries no penalties. The First Amendment ... makes stopping terrorist acts committed by Americans before they happen more challenging.\"

And mainstream conservatives have been slow to confront the reality.

The Department of Homeland Security warned in 2009 that the greatest threat to domestic security was far-right extremism, not foreign terrorists.
The Obama administration was ripped by Rush Limbaugh and others on the right who felt victimized.

Between the lines: White nationalism is the subtext and text text of the 2020 presidential race, as the reality of a shrinking white population sets in and big states, including Texas, turn increasingly diverse — and blue.

Today, AP broke the news that new election systems in states like Pennsylvania run on systems still run on old software that will soon be vulnerable to hackers.

In March, Democrats in the House passed HR 1 - the For the People Act - which addresses election security and helps guarantee the integrity of the ballot box. But, in the Senate, that bill has yet to receive a vote.

This is the week Democrats push back and say ‘Enough is enough!’

Finally…

House Democrats today made it clear that their patience with Donald Trump’s lying, obstruction and corruption and that of his henchman, Attorney General Bill Barr, has run out. Democrats are done with Barr’s blatant attempt to help Donald Trump cover up his misdeeds and keep the truth about his lawlessness from the American people.

Last week, Barr refused to appear before the House Judiciary Committee because he didn’t like who would be asking the questions.

Now, Democrats are fighting back.

On Wednesday, the House Judiciary Committee will vote to hold Barr in contempt of Congress after giving the AG every possible chance to do the right thing and release to Congress the full, unredacted Mueller report. Barr has instead chosen to play games, ignore the law and take a wrecking ball to this nation’s system of checks and balances.

And even Republicans know it.

Kurt Bardella, who was spokesperson and senior advisor to Republicans on the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee for five years from 2009-2013, wrote yesterday in a piece for NBC News THINK titled ‘Trump’s subpoena obstruction has fractured the Constitution’s system of checks and balances.’

As Bardella wrote:

“Thursday, May 2, 2019, felt like the end of checks and balances in America. It was the day that the Republicans on the House Judiciary Committee stood by and supported the executive branch’s decision to ignore a lawful subpoena issued by the legislative branch. And on Monday, 380 former prosecutors -- from Democratic AND Republican administrations -- released a signed statement that said Trump would have been indicted for obstruction resulting in multiple felony charges based on Mueller’s findings if he wasn’t president.

Imagine that -- the highest office in our land is being used as a Get Out of Jail Free Card by the president of the United States.

Unfortunately, none of those prosecutors have been elected to the United States Senate, and it has become painfully obvious that the president thinks he is above the law and the Republican Party and brand new Trump spokesperson William Barr are all too happy to enable that dangerous flight of fancy.

But as Speaker Pelosi made clear last week, Barr lied to the American people and he lied to Congress, which is a crime even if you’re the Attorney General.

Last week, Barr refused to appear before the House Judiciary Committee because he didn’t like who would be asking the questions.

Now, Democrats are fighting back.

It’s up to us to save ourselves from the lies, the abject corruption and heinous agenda of Donald Trump, his administration and the GOP, which is complicit in his corruption and cheerleaders for his agenda.

We will continue to fight for the release of the full and unvarnished Russia Investigation report, but we don’t need a damn report to know that Donald J. Trump is corrupt. And so are his GOP obstructionist cronies on Capitol Hill, where Mitch McConnell is so eager to protect the swamp, that he refuses to allow a vote on H.R. 1 For the People Act, the most sweeping package of anti-corruption measures since Watergate.

We don’t need a report to know that Trump is a dangerously bad president that has not lived up to his own hype, has broken every campaign promise he ever made, including that he would lower taxes, cut prescription drug prices, protect people with preexisting conditions, build a wall paid for by Mexico and not make cuts to Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security.

We don’t need a report to tell us that Trump lied to veterans -- promising to fix the Veterans Administration.

We don’t need a report to tell us that Trump’s trade wars and tariffs are harming American farmers.

What we need is you. All of you - using the power of your voice and your vote and your activism to take the fight directly to Trump and the Republicans on a daily basis.

It seems like just yesterday that Nancy Pelosi was taking back the speaker’s gavel after the American people voted to take back their house from lobbyists, special interests and corrupt politicians.

House Homeland Security Committee Chairman Bennie Thompson (D-MS) blasted the move, saying it will \"put even more stress on our immigration system and add to the chaos the Administration continues to create.\"

“The Trump Administration has managed to find a new low in its continued despicable treatment of migrant children and families. Terminating the Flores settlement is illegal and goes against our longstanding American values about the treatment of children,\" Thompson said in a statement.

Madhuri Grewal, policy counsel for the American Civil Liberties Union:

\"This is yet another cruel attack on children, who the Trump administration has targeted again and again with its anti-immigrant policies. The government should not be jailing kids, and certainly shouldn't be seeking to put more kids in jail for longer.\"

The two agencies that created the rule - the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the Department of Health and Human Services - said in a statement:

\"Large numbers of alien families are entering illegally across the southern border, hoping that they will be released into the interior rather than detained during their removal proceedings. Future Now and Future Majority today announced The Veterans Bill of Rights, a new national initiative to help veterans access jobs, college degrees, healthcare, suicide prevention services, and housing through proven, low-cost programs and state law changes.

The following 26 lawmakers from 11 states, representing approximately 5.6 million veterans, announced today they are introducing The Veterans Bill of Rights:

● Iowa: House Min. Leader Todd Prichard*

● Georgia: Reps. Scott Holcomb*, CaMia Hopson, Sandra Scott*, Brian Prince*, and Al Williams*

● North Carolina: Reps. John Autry*, Grier Martin*, and Rep. Nasif Majeed*; Sen. Jeff Jackson*

● Kentucky: Sen. Dennis Parrett

● Arizona: Sen. Jamescita Peshlakai*

● Texas: Rep. César Blanco*

In addition, former West Virginia Senator Richard Ojeda, a veteran who served 24 years in the United States Army, will crisscross the country, including to these 11 states, to advocate for states to step up for veterans by passing The Veterans Bill of Rights.

The Veterans Bill of Rights honors veterans’ service to our country by:

● Increasing veterans’ access to jobs;

● Increasing veterans’ access to college degrees, certificates, and licenses;

● Increasing veterans’ access to healthcare;

● Preventing veteran suicide and increasing veterans’ access to mental health services; and

● Ending veteran homelessness.

“Veterans were willing to make the ultimate sacrifice defending our country, but too often politicians aren’t willing to lift a finger for them when they return,” said Daniel Squadron, Co-Founder and Executive Director of Future Now. “State legislatures have a duty to honor America’s veterans by ensuring they get the benefits and resources they need. By introducing The Veterans Bill of Rights, these lawmakers are honoring service. I hope every single state passes this bill so they can deliver veterans and their families the very best.”

“I am dedicated to campaigning for a national Veterans Bill of Rights to address the needs and challenges that face veterans that return home after serving this nation to ensure they are given every opportunity to succeed,” said Richard Ojeda, a senior advisor to Future Majority and former West Virginia State Senator. “We are going to start that effort now by working with legislators and politicians across the country to sign on and support The Veterans Bill of Rights in their own states as we build the momentum to take this national.

Ojeda continued, “It is estimated that 22 veterans commit suicide every day across this country. It is not just mine, but every veteran’s responsibility to lower that number to zero. It is also estimated that nearly half of America’s veterans are facing joblessness. This is unconscionable. It is an outrage and it is incumbent upon every legislator in this country to ensure the protections and opportunities for veterans in their states that are included in The Veterans Bill of Rights. I look forward to building support for this plan across the country.”

By introducing The Veterans Bill of Rights, I hope to show our state – and all 49 others – how we can deliver on the promise to give veterans and their families the very best.”

“Working in terrorism threat assessment at the Department of Defense as a contractor, I was proud to work with servicemen and women daily. As a State Senator, I’m proud to support the Veterans Bill of Rights to lift up the veteran population in our state,” said New Hampshire State Senator Jon Morgan (District 23). “As public servants, one of our greatest responsibilities I feel is to the community of active duty, reserves, and other veterans than live in our communities. A strong tradition of and respect for military service is deeply ingrained in the Granite State. From the Portsmouth Naval Yard to the Pease Air National Guard Base, the last report based on the census found just over 100,000 veterans living in New Hampshire.”

The Problem

Our nation’s veterans serve and protect us in the military – but too often, we fail to serve and protect them when they return home: Only 30% return to civilian life with a job, nearly two million, along with four million of their family members, lack basic health coverage, 20 veterans die from suicide every day, and over 40,000 are without a home on any given night.
